who or who the dead body was inside that cabin in big bear. it's not confirmed by lapd sources, who will have the final say on there. we don't know how long it will take place to find out what went on. we know the cab sin still smolderring -- smouldering and hot. >>reporter: investigators say it's still too hot to go in. >> it's not safe for them. they believe there's live ammunition and it's still smouldering. >>reporter: a single shot was heard inside. a man believed to be dorner never came out. law enforcement swarmed the argue after a home invasion and car jacking by a man matching

dorner's description. that is when the bullets started firing. carter evans found himself in the thick of it. two deputies were shot in the exchange. one of them died. dorner had been on run since last week, when he alledgedly shot and killed two people, including a police officer. he had promised revenge since being fired. >> what i'm thankful is we don't have to go through the trials, appeal is and have to set through 25 years of appeals on death row. >>reporter: now we heard reporter carter evans getting pinned down, in effect, by that gun fire as it took place this afternoon between dorner and deputies. we're going to take a moment to look at more of that of exactly

how that felt earlier this afternoon. >> i hear some screening. >> get down. >> authorities have told us we need to stay low for our safety. homes ago we were caught in the middle of this gun fire between christopher dorner and authorities. we're told two deputies have been hit by that fun fire, their condition unknown right now. take a look on the other side. you can see the s.w.a.t. team just a little bit down the road. they have dorner cornered in a cabin right now. they're preparing to move in but it is the unknown exactly how they're going to go about that at this point. time is on authorities' side. shorts have been heard inside the building. we haven't heard gun fire for some time. >>reporter: we want to mention once again it is not official as to who is inside that cabin as it burned to the ground. we are all waiting for tomorrow
